Not part of the initial creative process for the other Winds of Change, I sketched the initial ideas for this piece to play at a Goethe Institut concert in Woollahra, Sydney, sometime in the 90's with Craig Walters (tenor sax).
Linsey Pollak and I performed it (tarogato and piano) a couple of times over the next few years, and then it lay, not so much dormant, as gestating. This was another of those pieces which kept surfacing in my psyche, on and off, for many a year. It called for resolution, of the Passacaglia in particular.

"It arose, unbidden, one distant day, from the edge of my dreaming bubble... captured moments before it dissolved and disappeared....
no time even to name it ...and then buried and forgotten in my Unconscious.
Yet the impulse remains the same, and it sings to me, driving and carrying my fading life energies.... moving me to keep dancing on the edge of the looming event horizon, as it approaches from the not- so-distant shores...."

Well, so I wrote one day, when I heard the initial ideas for this piece with my mind's ear sometime in 2004.
